USB Scanner / Printer connected to a router

Asked by Sope Tunna

Hi, I've got a psc1317, aka "All-in-one printer / scanner" device connected to a router, D-Link DIR-120, via USB and have managed to make basic printing work via CUPS. That is, I can print but not alter any options.

Now to my question: how do I make the scanner work?

Previously I had it connected to my single computer and it worked like a charm with the marvelous HP device manager. Scanning was done through the application Skanlite.

My OS is 64-bit OpenSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.1
Wife OS is 64-bit Ubuntu Intrepid with Gnome

The output of # hp-check -t when I have the printer / scanner connected to the router.

1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the
proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied
tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time
dependencies).

HPLIP does not support third party network sharing devices. HPLIP does support HP Jetdirect devices. We do not test on any D-Link hardware so can not say if this configuration will work correctly. It appears that it is not working because you aren't having the functionality you are trying to use.

If you connect the printer to the computer with USB and it works correctly then we are unable to assist further.

Also if you connect the printer to the computer be sure to run:

su -c "hp-setup"

to configure the printer.

Thanks.

Aaron
