ghostscript -> HPLIP -> HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

Asked by Homer W Smith

Sorry I am so confused. I simply want to use ghostscript to take in a postscript file and output a proper format file for a HP Office Jet Pro 8600.

I need to know the proper ghostscript parameters to create the output file. I do not need it to be printed, I will get the file over the printer myself. I am presently using LPD but have CUPS installed, but not sure how they are relevant.

I am using, taken from the HP support page:

gs -sDEVICE=ijs -sIjsServer=hpijs -dIjsUseOutputFD
      -sDeviceManufacturer="HP" -sDeviceModle="Office Jet Pro 8600"

I get Error, 9.07 *** Could not open the file . Unable to open the device, quitting.

Hi Smith,

To install HPLIP driver please follow the below steps:
1.Goto https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip and download and install the latest driver for centos distro.
2.Do hp-setup to add device.

This will also install ghostscript and cups latest version. See if it solves the issue.

Note:Please uninstall hplip 3.15.9 which you manually installed below following above steps to avoid conflicts.

Thanks,

    NOT SOLVED

I have done the above. Running CentOS7 with latest ghostscript and cups fulling installed, and printer fully set up, and cups able to print a test page, and I am able to print from the linux command line to the HP 8600 Office Jet.

However ghostscript continues to give me the originally reported error.

Remember I do NOT need the output of ghostscript to be immediately printed, I only need to save
the output in a file so it can be lpr'd to the printer later.

I am suspecting I have the proper options to ghostscript wrong, so perhaps you can help me with them.

Maybe a typo error in your command (or just in the question)

-sDeviceModle="Office Jet Pro 8600"

should probably be

-sDeviceModel="Office Jet Pro 8600"

Thanks it was a typo. The proper names of the printers in theory is at the HPLIP supported printers page.

None of which work.

OK, look, this is the support place for HPLIP, where do I get full documentation on how to use
ghostscript through HPLIP to print to the HP8600.

Thanks Homer

I am sorry to have to reopen this, it was working long ago and now is not.

running CPANEL with CENTOS 7.7.1908 (Core)

     GS 9.2.5

HPLIP 3.15.9-5.el7 per yum list hplip

Running testgs it bombs out with " can not open initial device."

     gs -sDEVICE=ijs -sIjsServer=hpijs -dIjsUseOutputFD
      -sDeviceManufacturer="HP" -sDeviceModel="Office Jet Pro 8600" -
      -sOutputFile=/tmp/data.out /tmp/data.print

/tmp/data.print is a valid PS file produced by Gnuplot.

     Thanks in advance

If you need help with using gs, then you better look for help with ghostscript, and not HPLIP.

Good answer, except that it is hplip that ghostscript fails
to load.

I will post to the gs lists. Thanks for your time.
