Loss of print job when out of paper

Asked by Chris Karel

We are printing to an HP M606 using raw CUPS printer queues. (no HPLIP driver) But we've noticed that with the latest firmware (v3.9.1, rev 2308955_579079), postscript print jobs will be discarded if the printer waits too for additional paper. That is after five minutes waiting for more paper, any part of the postscript print job not spooled to the printer will never print. This behavior is definitely tied to the printer itself, as it changed with firmware updates.

Is there any mechanism to properly preserve and resume these print jobs? We don't use the HPLIP drivers, as developers had found in the past it made subtle changes to page output that caused issues with some sensitive print jobs. But were certainly open to exploring what other modifications we might be able to make to change this behavior.

Hi Chris,

This looks more like a firmware issue that the driver issue. Kindly contact the firmware team for further clarification and help.

Ayushi, is the best way to reach the firmware team through the regular HP Support channels? Because I contacted them first, and they sent me here.

Hi Chris,

You have to contact the firmware team itself through the HP Support channel. While raising a query please specify that with each firmware update the behavior changed and that you were not using the HPLIP driver. Hope it helps.

Ayushi
