Cannot select photo paper

Asked by Mick

I have installed by following instructions on https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/14
In System Settings > Printers > Properties > Printer Option
     I have set it to
    A5 Borderless
    Color
    Photo Paper
    High Resolution Photo
but when I try to print from an applications, e.g. GIMP or Xviewer I can only select plain paper or Transparency Film
How can I select photo paper?

has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Hi Mick,

Are you able to select HP photo paper through toolbox?

Please provide the following logs for debugging purpose.

1) syslog.
  path: /var/log/syslog.

2) error_log for cups
Steps to enable cups log :
-> go to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
-> Change the Loglevel from warn to debug2 and add 'hpLogLevel 15' in the next line and save the file.
-> restart the cups before adding the printer - /etc/init.d/cups restart
path: /var/log/cups/error_log

Regards,
Nishitha

I have updated cupsd.conf, restarted cups, deleted the printer and reinstalled.

If I go into Printer Properties > Printer Options I can select Photo Paper as Media Type and A5 Borderless as the paper size. At this point all looks good.

I now open a picture in Xviwer and select print. In Page Settings I can select Paper type as Plain Paper or Transparency Film, but not Photo Paper.

The log files are pretty big, do you want me to paste them in here or is there a way to upload them?

Thanks
Mick

Hi Mick,

Kindly download the latest hplip from the below mentioned link and do a fresh install.

https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip
Select your distro and click on download hplip

The printer supports plain, photo and glossy paper and so it should not be a problem. If the problem still persists it could be related to the xviewer application and thus, kindly attach the logs. There is no size restriction so you can attach the complete logs.

Regards,
Ayushi

OK I have done that. If I use the HP Device Manager I can select photo paper and print. If I select print from within an application, e.g. xviewer or gimp, I can still only see Plain Paper or Transparency Film. Is there something more I need to do to fix that?
Thanks
Mick

Hi Mick,

If the HP Device Manager is able to print with photo paper option and the xviewer application is not showing the photo paper option then it looks like an application issue and not hplip.

Regards,
Ayushi

Can you help with this problem?
