Printer will not work with Linux

Asked by Jim Chenault

I installed fresh copy of Linux Lite 3.8 (i think? latest version on website). it is a Ubuntu flavor. I have bought new HP OfficeJet Pro 6975. I have downloaded the new version of hplip and ran the script. it says that I am missing some dependencies and some errors. it says 'unsupported model OfficeJet_Pro_6970' well mine is a 6975 and i found it on your list of available models, full but end of life. missing required dependencies 'libcupsimage2-dev, libsane-dev, & python3-dev' . i ran 'sudo apt-get install "dependency name" for all three. python install but the other two didnt. i was able to get the gui started but it will not detect the usb port. i reinstalled the cable into the back of the printer. and then tried all of the usb ports on back of computer. it would not detect the printer. ??? very confused about what to do next. i did run 'sudo hp-check -r' and that is how i found out about which specific dependency is missing.

i was able to 'sudo apt-get install' the missing optional dependencies. so now when i run the 'sudo hp-check -r' command, it comes back that i have an unsupported model number even though my model number is different than what is being reported and my actual model number shows up on the list of supported models on your website. (????????) and then it says i am missing two required dependecies:

                   error: 'libsand-dev' package is missing/incompatible
                   error: 'libcupsimage2-dev' package is missing/incompatible

how do i resolve this.?????? i have tried to do an 'apt-get install' on those dependencies with no positive result.

Hi Jim,

Can you try the below comments to install the missing packages?
sudo apt install libsane-dev
sudo apt install libcupsimage2-dev
and try to install hplip driver again?
If you are facing any usb port issues, can you please check "lsusb" command in terminal and upload it for further analysis?

Thanks,
Nishitha
