plugin load-error for p1102w after upgrade to 3.17.11

Asked by Graham Southernwood

During setup for the p1102w I am asked to load the plugin- I accept the option "Load from HP site (recommended) and get the following error-log:
Plugin Download and Install Utility ver. 2.1

Checking for network connection...
Downloading plug-in from:
error: Plugin download failed with error code = 8
error: file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered

Done.

I am not asked for a password when I run "hp-plugin" as a normal user.
Running "sudo hp-plugin" produces the same end-result.

I can no longer print to the device in Ubuntu.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Graham Southernwood

Graham - had this exact problem myself - first time on this site because I had this problem, I found others had used a manual download to overcome the error code = 8 problem...
so:
log in as standard user
type
wget http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/hplip-3.17.11-plugin.run
then
wget http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/hplip-3.17.11-plugin.run.asc

then rerun - this is what I used for a USB HP1005, so YMMV.

hp-setup -i busb

then instead of downloading the driver, tell the config script to use the local one - if you download then run the script, just put . in the location and complete running the script.

When I checked the CUPS printers - there it was. Hope this helps, there's lots of people reporting this problem in different ways - but this fixed my newly installed Debian 9.3 on a mac mini.
R.

Hi Graham,

The checksum error occurs when the network is interrupted or because of some server issues in the website . We have verified that the plugin files on the server are not corrupt. Please re-try installing the plugins now.

Thanks,
Afshan
