Failed installation of latest printer plugin for HP laserjet P1100w

Asked by John Auditore, Sr

Fresh install of LinuxMint 18.2 Cinnamon 64 bit to my PC. Using installed version of HPLIP trying to install my HP Lasejet P1102w printer. Partly installed using USB, but when i run hp-plugin to install the proprietary plugin using the 'download from server option' I get the following errror message; error: Plugin download failed with error code = 8

error: file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered

What the hell is happening and more importantly, how do I fix this? This is a first for me as I have been using various hp printers over the last 5 to 7 years and I've never seen this. I used to be able to download just the actual plugin and direct the installer to the download location, but I don't see whee you can get the plugin directly any more.

While the problem of the HPLIP installer erring out is still not fixed or understood, I have found the plugin on the openprinting.org website and was able to download it and it's signature file and finally successfully installed the printer.

Hi John,

Normally, the checksum error occurs when the network is down or interrupted during the download of the plugin. We have verified that the plugin files on the server are not corrupt. Please check your network connection and re-try installing the plugins. If the issue still exists please download the plugins manually from below link.

Thanks,
Afshan
