HP Envy 4520 Text prints fine but graphics distorted.

Asked by Simon Baldwin

I used HPLIP to install my HP ENVY 4520 device. Scanning and text printing work fine but colour graphics printing always gives serious problems with colour spreading out from the original coloured areas and other colours appearing too. We have a number of other Mac, Windows and Chrome OS devices in the house and all work fine except this Linux one using HPLIP.

The computer I am using is a Powerbook G4 running Ubuntu Mate 16.04 powerpc.

Hi Simon,

This behavior of distortion of color printing sounds more related to firmware or hardware. Please contact HP product support team for this.

Thanks,

Many thanks for your reply, I will give you further information on how I have managed to solve the problem. In effect, I tried using the OS to add the printer instead of HPLIP after successfully using this system on another Ubuntu Mate computer.

The printer works now fine on the same hardware. I used the inbuilt CUPS system to install the printer and this works both with graphics and text. CUPS driver doesn't allow me to scan so I am still using HPLIP for this. Note that the firmware and hardware of both printer and computer remain the same. There is clearly a problem with the driver used by HPLIP although luckily the CUPS can be used instead for printing.
