Network scan stops printer

Asked by Matt Burkhardt

I'm running an Ubuntu 8.04 server running CUPS with an HP Photosmart C3180 all-in-one. Print works, scan works, but if I scan, I need to turn off the printer and turn it back on before it will accept print jobs again.

I'm using Xsane to use the scanner and can recreate this problem every time

Any ideas?

Matt,

Please run hp-check -t and post the output.

How are you putting this device on the network? It doesn't come network support built in and I want to make sure the device you are using to do that is supported.

Thanks.

Aaron

Sorry - never got the message that you had originally posted. I tried to change the status, but couldn't figure it out. Anyway - here's the output from hp-check -t from my laptop

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.7)
Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.0

Copyright (c) 2001-8 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP
This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Matt,

Your printer is not configured to be using HPLIP. The printer must be configured to use the hp:/ backend. You are using the usb:// backend which is not the HPLIP driver.

Run:

sudo hp-setup

to configure the printer.

Although you may want to upgrade to the latest HPLIP.
