where is SmartinstallDisable-Tool.run

Asked by tech support

I'm trying to install an HP 1102w Print on Linux. I've checked out various postings, e.g. https://askubuntu.com/questions/896370/hp-laserjet-p1102w-cant-disable-smart-install, and http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/smartinstall/SmartinstallDisable-Tool.run (referenced in that post), but all redirect to https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing and I find nothing on downloading SmartinstallDisable-Tool.run

Here's the CLI output when I run hp-setup to install the 1102w printer:

Hello

Please disable smart install feature from device front panel (Settings->Services->HP Smart install) for this device. After doing this, printing from Linux should work fine.

Thanks,
Afshan

The 1102w has no front panel. I was able to find the disable smart install program from a posting on LinuxQuestions.org. The program can be found here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/How-to-disable-smartinstall-on-windows-10-p1102w/td-p/6262621. It both disables and can enable Smart Install. This is likely the link to which the HPLIP message should be referring users since the link http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/smartinstall/SmartinstallDisable-Tool.run does not exist.

To anybody facing this problem to install an HP printer on Linux, first of all, you have to disable Smart Install in the inner menu of the printer itself..
Once you have disabled it, then Linux will recognize the printer and the driver installer will be able to detect it and install it..
I was struggling with this matter during a couple of days, and there are no place with a successful answer, until I found the comment of Afshan F..
Thanks a lot man, you literally saved my day..
