HPLIP plugin issue Laserjet Pro MFP M127fn on Ubuntu

Asked by Benjamin Pople

My linux distribution is Ubuntu 15.04 running on an HP-G70

The printer, as in the heading is a Laserjet Pro MFP M127fn.

Here is the hp-check -t output:

This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it
under certain conditions. See COPYING file for more details.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies
d. [All are run-time checks]

The printer is functioning for print and I have installed the gui which reports the toner level correctly although the "install required plugin" button does nothing.

My problem is the scanner does not work at all.

I have tried both the above automatic download of the plugin and have taken the plugin download from openprinting, both give the same result.

From similar issues posted, it appears that the problem lies in the python version but before I start trying to find something using Synaptic I'd appreciate any input from more knowledgeable folks.

Many thanks

"error: This distro (i.e ubuntu 15.04) is either deprecated or not yet supported."

Are you aware that the support for Ubuntu 15.04 has ended more than a year ago, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Hplip tries its best, but apparently fails in some assumptions.

My suggestion is that you upgrade your Ubuntu system to a supported release (e.g. 16.04 with support until April 2021) and then re-try installing hplip.

OK will do Manfred, and thank you for the fast response.

Installing the latest Ubuntu 16.04 resolved my problem, HPLIP scanning functions through both Xsane and Simple scan, but not through the HP device manager GUI.

However I can get back to work.

Thanks again to Manfred.

Thanks Manfred Hampl, that solved my question.
