remote D5363 reject to work with glossy 4×6 inch paper

Asked by dmiceman

I have a problem with printing on the glossy and “satin” 4×6 inch paper on my D5363. I'm tried Lomond glossy paper 230g/m² ( http://lomond.com/catalog/product.html?&rid=395&pid=8493&lang=en ) and Lomond satin 280g/m² ( http://lomond.com/catalog/product.html?&rid=399&pid=8577&lang=en ). With both of them, printing looks like:

1. Printer move the photo tray inside
2. Catch a paper sheet (with terrible sound)
3. Try to roll it
4. Return the photo tray to the loading position and say “please, load 4×6 paper to the photo tray”

Actually, paper sheet is blocked in the duplexer and to remove it, I should remove duplexer and extract sheet from the main paper tray (i.e. it is droped from the photo tray to the main tray).

But! I have no problems with printing on the Lomond matt paper 230g/m² ( http://lomond.com/catalog/product.html?&rid=393&pid=6340&lang=en ). The glossy paper is not anyhow thicker than the matt paper. I presume there is some tweak in the print job missed to instruct the printer to accept glossy paper.

Also, there is no problems with printing on the glossy paper from the windows! (But there is a selection of paper type is possible with working value “Another paper”). Printer act like a charm, eat paper, produce photos.

Is there are way to print glossy 4×6 from the linux? Thanks in advance.

We do not test on third party papers. We do however test with HP papers and card stock. Is it possible to test on HP papers or card stock?

Thanks.

Well, right now I have only 5×7 “HP Premium Plus Photo Paper”, shipped with the printer. It have printed fine. I'll try to find some HP 4×6 paper, but it can't be done so quickly. But actually I have different question: why there is no paper type selection in HPLIP drivers, available on the windows counterpart?

You can select the paper type.

Run:

hp-toolbox

Click the printer

Click Print Setting.

Click General

then Media and select the media type.

But what to do if this is remote smb printer? May be there is some tweak for PPD possible to allow set media type without hp-toolbox?

You may need to configure this in CUPS on the share printer system. We don't provide support for SMB shared printers although the CUPS documentation should get you going in the right direction.

Sorry I couldn't help more.
