linux support for OfficeJet Pro 8500?

Asked by markn

I'm considering purchasing an OfficeJet Pro 8500 to use with my Debian etch, soon to be Lenny system and an (ahem) older Fedora Core 3 system. Is this printer completely supported under these two linux distributions?

Thanks,

Mark

The OfficeJet Pro 8500 is supported by HPLIP:

Fedora Core 3 is not supported, but you shouldn't have any problems with Etch/Lenny. Fedora Core 3 is very old and was EOL'ed by Fedora Jan 2006. More information on the Fedora EOL here and here:

https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2006-January/msg00044.html

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/LifeCycle/EOL

You can get more specific information about the various distros and support levels on the link at the top of this message.

Hope this helps--and thanks for your support of HPLIP, we appreciate it.

Aaron

Yeah, but it doesn't print to full resolution. I am using Mandriva, and the printer can only print aprx. 600dpi resolution (which means, photos look like drafts).

Dulwithe.

Can you help with this problem?
