Should HPLIP upgrade necessitate re-adding printer

Asked by Brett Randall

Linux Mint 17.1.

I frequently get prompted to upgrade HPLIP to the latest version, which is great. And the terminal installer is great too, no issues. Part of its process is to say that it will uninstall the old version, which is fine.

Except that this seems to also partially remove the configuration of the existing printer, which is a network-wifi printer. Is that expected and really necessary? HP tools seem to lose the printer definition, but the queues remain. I have to delete the queues, so I can retain the same name, then re-configure.

Expected? Or am I doing something wrong? Or should I just ignore updates for longer periods?

Thanks
Brett
