Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

The HP LaserJet 4 is supported by HPLIP however support that is provided is considered "as-is". You can get more information about the support information for this device here:

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/laserjet/hp_laserjet_4_plus.html

We are no longer providing technical assistance with this device. For some troubleshooting tips on parallel you can go here:

http://hplipopensource.com/node/217

Looking over your hp-check I don't see any specific reason that the device isn't working, other than it appears that HPLIP is unable to detect the printer. It could be offline or in an error state. You could try powercycling the printer to see if this may resolve the problem.

Sorry for any inconvenience, and thanks for your support of HPLIP--we appreciate it.

Hi

Thank you for your reply have looked into this further and found that removing the latest version HPLIP and installing the older version that came with Ubuntu 8.10 has now solved the problem.

Many Thanks for your advice

Best Regards
