printer installed; will not print

Asked by coachdoan

I installed HPLIP 3.9.2 on Ubuntu 8.10. I installed my new printer--HP P1006. The computer recognizes the printer, and seems to send printing jobs to it, but the printer does not print anything. The status says the printing job completed, but it didn't. I had a Brother printer that worked perfectly fine.

Try removing the printer and re-install the printer using the "Generic Printer - PostScript" driver/setting. This should be fine for this model.

What driver did you select at this time? What is it using?

Try the above method and let me know if it works.

I was using the driver for the HP. I removed the printer and reinstalled it as you said. Same issue. The computer seems to recognize it, but the printer doesn't print.

Actually, now the printer seems to be working. I think I was having difficulty downloading the plug-in.

Good news! So, it is all solved using the official HP proper plug-in? It may've been defaulted to the wrong plugin. Re-installing sometimes works when it can not find a download source or a network connection. I'm glad to hear the problem is solved.
