Sorry if this sounds obvious, but what makes you think that the red ink cartridge isn't empty?

Hi David, because it's a laser printing, specifically the HP P1005... that only use Black cartridge .

I think I have the same issue. Any text that is not black on the original document is printed so light by the P1005, it is barely legible. This change has happened for me since moving from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10. With 9.04, the problem was not there, now when I try to print a web page, for example, much is the text is barely readable. Hope this helps. Jerry
