can't get HP Envy 4520 printer to print

installed HPLIP
however, current HP Envy 4520 printer does not appear in installed printers and can't delete old printer
unsure of version of ubuntu so maybe wrong version of hplip
how do I find what version of ubuntu I am using
please help me print !
