Support of HP138 (6 colors mode) — not clear

Asked by dmiceman

Sorry for (possible) stupid question. Is there any difference between rasterizer output for 4-color mode and 6-color mode? To be more precise: when i select “1200dpi … Black + Color cartr. … ” is the light cyan and light magenta from the HP138 (C9369HE) cartridge in my Photosmart D5363 is being used? If not, how i can enable use of six color mode? There is no variations in “Resolution, Quality, Ink Type, Media Type” other than “Black + Color Cartr.”.

All 6 color cartridges should be used automatically. Is there some reason you are thinking they aren't?

Thanks!

Well… No. But that is not clearly mentioned in the documentation. And wording “Black + Color Cartr.” in the PPD file confused me. Especially because I can't distinguish between four and six color mode by the eye. To be precise, I'm printing to the remote shared printer without “hp-” gui front-ends. Does it make sense?

Thank you.

Yeah the PPD doesn't specify that all the inks are being used, but by "Color" it means that all of the color inks are being used. If that makes sense? You can tell that all of the inks are being used because the levels will start dropping for each one and when one color runs out you'll see printing quality issues.

Hope this helps and thanks for your support of HPLIP--we appreciate it.
