Cannot print from Ubuntu 8.10 to HP LaserJet 1018

The printer is recognized by the system. However, when I send a print job to the printer, nothing happens. The HPLIP system reports that the print job has been sent, and later that the printing is complete. It even reports that the printer is busy while 'printing'. But nothing gets printed.

Your printer queue gives an error:

"error: Required plug-in status: Not installed"

Run:

sudo hp-plugin

or delete the printer queue and to configure the printer run:

sudo hp-setup

HPLIP toolbox link to download necessary plugin did not work/complete. Probably due to mobile broadband issues. Recommend Aaron command line above

sudo hp-plugin

as verbose and confirms true success. Thanks

Without this it is not possible to authenticate and validate the plug-in prior to installation.

I solved with:
sudo apt-get install libcanberra-gtk-module libcanberra-gtk0
