It looks like scanning isn't configured correctly.

Run terminal. Click: Applications -> Accesories -> Terminal

Type:

sudo gedit /etc/sane.d/dll.conf

Press enter. Then at the bottom of the file add

hpaio

save, exit.

Then to configure the printer run:

sudo hp-setup

Then follow the steps. Be sure to have the printer IP available if you are going to set up the printer queue for over the network.

Thanks for your support of HPLIP--we appreciate it.

Please help starting to get very frustrated!!Okay latest status, update still no scanner. After adding hpaio in dll.conf I ran hp-setup and...

anna@anna-desktop:~$ sudo hp-setup

error: No devices found. Please make sure your printer is properly connected and powered-on.

Done.

Then I ran hp-check and ...
anna@anna-desktop:~$ hp -test

anna@anna-desktop:~$ hp-test

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Saving output in log file: hp-check.log
