My computer detects and installs my LaserJet P1005, but it does not print anything.

Asked by joeboy010 on 2009-02-07

Hello,

I have a LaserJet P1005. I have installed hplip 2.8.7. The printer is detected on it, and I can access its settings and preferences. When I tell it to print a test page, it shows that there is a print job going, but no page is printed at all. It tells me that a job is finished, but nothing physical is happening. I'm not too sure where to go from this.

Thank you!

Hi,

the same happened to me.

Did you install the required plugin? The p1005 and p1006 do need it. It can be installed in the hplip menu.

success!

hansc

Run as root: (or sudo)

hp-plugin

To install the plugin.

Thanks.

I've installed hplip 2.8.12 instead, seeing if that might work. It installs the plugins. However, I am still not able to print out anything. It says "Device is busy, or it is in an error state." or along those words. I have tried adding the printer again, but it tells me the printer is busy, once again. I ran hp-check -t, maybe that could be of some help to you:

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.12)
Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.1

This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it
under certain conditions. See COPYING file for more details.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Saving output in log file: hp-check.log

Initializing. Please wait...
