Can't scan from network attached CM1017 mfp

Asked by MarianoAbsatz

Hi, using hplip 2.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 under hardy.

I have a CM1017 attached to the network. Printing always worked fine and today I started trying to scan from it... however, I can't make sane to find the device.

The IP is 192.168.31.5. In /etc/sane.d/net.conf I added a line with this IP by itself.

The URI in CUPS is hp:/net/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1017?ip=192.168.31.5 (I had it originally configured from within the standard gnome "printer configuration wizard", but I erased all entries and configured it again using hp-setup. The printer keeps working just fine.

xsane says "no devices available".

If I run it like:

xsane hpaio:/net/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1017?ip=192.168.31.5

it says: "Failed to open device `hpaio:/net/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1017?ip=192.168.31.5': Error during device I/O"

Below is the output of "hp-check -t". Any help, appreciated.

1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed
to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper
dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Stupid me, thanx... whereas I had 2.8.2 I kept reading 2.8.12 again and again... :-D

New question then... I want to install 2.8.12 from source according to http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/ubuntu.html

Should I previously uninstall the .deb package?

Thanks dwelch91, that solved my question.
