Bottom margin always around 1/2" (1.27cm) on DJ5652

Asked by diligent

Bottom of each page is cut off due to large margins (around 1/2"). I'm using A4 as DefaultImageableArea. I've used Evince and Acrobat Reader for linux also.
I've tried to change ImageableArea for A4 in my ppd file to "0.00 0.00 595.00 842.00", but w/o success.
Printer connected to my router asus wl500gp and configured in cups via JetDirect socket:// on 9100 port.
The problem isn't reproduced on windows box while using the same network configured printer (as raw device) and Acrobat Reader.

I've installed full hplip only for this test, before it I've only hpijs installed.

About errors in this test:
1) "dbus not found" - something not reasonable, cos "dbus daemon is running"
2) "ppdev not found" - I'm use usb connection for my printer and haven't lpt devices at all (that's why ppdev module not loaded)
3) "xsane not found" - I've not scanner or similar devices (sane installed due to some suse dependeces)
4) "usb devices not found" - cos my printer connected to my router and configure throw cups, as I wrote before
5) "printer is not hplip installed" - cos hp://192.168.0.1:9100 can't find my printer working

I may post content of my ppd file, if needed.

The problem still exists. It's very important to fix it cos we need to print
such pages due to our laws.

We can reproduce this however this is per the design spec for this device.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ok, but why this problem can't be reproduced on Windows box?
Looks like this one is not hardware specific problem - then how can we modify hpijs?
Please, provide info where this is located in source code - I need this in my work and I'll try to fix it myself, if you help me..

We might be able to fix this in the future but because of some limitations we aren't able to at this time.

However there is a work around.

Download the HPLIP source (tar.gz file) from http://hplipopensource.com

Run:

tar xvfz hplip-3.9.2.tar.gz
cd hplip-3.9.2/prnt/hpijs
gedit djgenericvip.cpp

Find the section: (around line 388)

    fMargins[0] = (float) 0.125;
    fMargins[1] = (float) 0.125;
    fMargins[2] = (float) 0.125;
    fMargins[3] = (float) 0.5;

Change to:

    fMargins[0] = (float) 0.125;
    fMargins[1] = (float) 0.125;
    fMargins[2] = (float) 0.125;
    fMargins[3] = (float) 0.125;

Finally run:
cd ..
cd ..
./install.py

This should reinstall HPLIP with the workaround.

Hope this helps.

Anyway, I think there should be some defect to track this problem and don't forget about it in future. Thanks.
