sh hplip-3.16.11.run incorrect Password

Guten Tag

Ich will die HPLIP mit sh hplip-3.16.11.run installieren und erhalte nach zwei abfragen über die Installationsart und das installierte OS folgende Fehlermeldungen nach wiederholten korrekten Passworteingaben:

Please enter the sudoer (valentino)'s password:
error: Password incorrect.
error: 3 incorrect attempts. (or) Insufficient permissions(i.e. try with sudo user).

Das OS ist Ubuntu 16.04.
Ich konnte auf einem älteren Rechner die Installation erfolgreich abschliessen.
Der neue Netzwerkdrucker ist ein HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M377dw.
Beim neueren Lenovo ThinkCentre-Edge72 will die Installation nicht klappen.

Weiss jemand eine guten Rat?

ok, das Passwort wird also für sudo akzeptiert.

Liefert ein neuer Versuch der Installation von hplip mit Eingabe desselben Passwords wie für "sudo id" wieder dasselbe Ergebnis ("password incorrect")?

Das ist für mich jetzt unerwartet.

Ideen:

1. Knapp vor der Passwort-Abfrage kommt die Frage "Ist Ubuntu 16.04 richtig?". An dieser Stelle könnte man testweise das Passwort eintippen (ohne Enter) und mit der Rücktaste wieder löschen um zu überprüfen, ob die Tastatur richtig interpretiert wird (QWERTZ gegen QWERTY etc.)

2. Hat das Passwort vielleicht ein Leerzeichen drinnen?

3. Was steht im Logfile hplip-install_Sun-19-Mar-2017_18:14:21.log ? (Falls ein Passwort zu sehen wäre, bitte löschen)

4. Muss es hplip 3.16.11 sein, oder könnte Version 3.16.3 aus den Ubuntu-Repository ausreichen?

Danke für die Hinweise/Tipps.

Nein das Passwort beinhaltet kein Leerzeichen, hat aber ein Zeichen, dass nicht zu den Zahlen bzw. Buchstaben gehört.
Kann aber per normalen Tastendruck erzeugt werden. Gibt es Zeichen die man lieber nicht verwenden soll, wie
sämtlichen Zeichen über den Ziffern mit Shift (+"*ç°§&/= und der gleichen)?

Selbst das Eintippen des Passwortes über Fernzugriff (also von einem Anderen PC aus über das Netzwerk) bringt nichts.

Ja, wenn ich das Passwort dort eingebe wo eine Eingabe erwartet wird, erscheinen die richtigen Zeichen.
Die Frage ist, ob im Moment des Logins bei der Anmeldung oder bei der Passworteingabe für Softwareaktualisierungen auch dieselben Zeichen interpretiert werden. Oder Könnten Einstellungen für das Terminal-Fenster (wo?) das Problem lösen?

Eine tiefere Version versuche ich zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt.

In der Log-Datei steht nichts Wesentliches, dass einem weiterbringen würde.
