Everex gPC v.2; ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-15-generic(?). Tried to install some sort of hard drive search application from(?) hp to find all drivers for their equipment(?). E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. Permission denied. No one else uses this machine. What can I do?

Asked by Dan Smith

con't--- Synaptic package mgr. now locked up; cannot fix. Incidentally, this machine may be a frankenstein. Another system feature says this is -16-generic, not -15-generic.
