Scanning small areas: Invalid Argument

Asked by Bernd Wurst

I have a CM1312 MFP for use with my Kubuntu 8.04 box.

As this device is only supported in hplip-2.8.10, I uninstalled hplip from the distribution and installed the new one with it's own installer.

Now, I have a very strange issue:
Whenever I select a scanning area that is smaller than app. 2"x2", I get an "invalid agument". No matter if I use hp-scan, scanimage or xsane.

Is this a hardware limitation, a bug or an undocumented feature? ;-)

Just to add another line here:

I do not have a Windows computer around, so I don't know if this limitation is also present on the Windows drivers.

Yes, this is a hardware limitation. Minimum scan width and height over the wire are set by the device. If you want smaller scans you will have to clip it upstream.
