You can configure the default print settings by running hp-toolbox, click on the printer, and then click print settings.

Hope this helps.

I guess the thing that confuses me is that if I click the "Default" button in that screen, the settings revert. There doesn't seem to be a way to set a new Default.

You can't set a new default setting per se, you can change the settings and once they set they are the settings that are used. Clicking the "Default" button simply reverts the settings to the preset default setting.

Hello,

I found I could change the preset default from Letter to A4 by using Printer Configuration in YaST2, that's in opensuse, by setting "Default Paper Size of the Current Driver". HPLIP seems to get the default it's using from there.

Now I've written this it seems obvious, setting the default in the printer driver sets the default in HPLIP, but it took me a while to sort it!

If I've misread the above questions/answers and got the wrong end of the stick, apologies.

Regards, Steve.
