Using the printer with a network print server

Asked by Stephan

Hello,
I've connected my HP PSC 2355 ALL-IN_ONE printer with my router WMU-9000-VPN. In this router there is an integrated print server (and the printer is connected via USB to the router) and printing with this configuration works fine for all my computers in the network. But trying to install this configuration into the HP device manager is not possible: the software does not accept the IP adress 192.168.1.254:9100 (meaning ip adress of the router and the printer port 9100 at the router). It only works, when the printer is directly connected to the computer. But then the computer has to be powered on when another computer wants to print...
Is there a way to use the HP device manager with my network configuration?

Best regards,
Stephan

Stephan,

HPLIP does not support third party network print servers. Usually they do not allow the correct communication to happen with the printer. HPLIP does fully support HP JetDirect devices.

Please run:

hp-makeuri ip.address.of.printer

and post the output.

This will verify if it will work or not, if you get an error more than likely not. But send the output anyway and I'll look at it.

Hello Aaron,
I've expected something like this. It's a pity, because the function of the software is good (when the printer is connected directly to a computer).

Here's the output of your command:
stephan@liwozi:~> hp-makeuri 192.168.1.254:9100

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.4)
Device URI Creation Utility ver. 4.4

Thank you for your quick help and best regards,
