hp deskjet 3650 won't print: Comment in header
Since a recent update to CUPS, my deskjet 3650 has been unable to print, and displays "%Page Comment in header!" in the status readout in ubuntu 8.10 printing configuration.
Tried the hp-setup, the output was that the printer was either disconnected, in an offline or error state.
It may be a hardware thing as the power light keeps blinking, though.

Hi Aaron
I am getting the same error message as Malachi. Just brought home 2nd hand HP 5550 and plugged into new 8.10 ubuntu installation. I tried the drivers it offered in the setup, had this problem, then downloaded HP-DeskJet_
Lee
Here is the output of hp-check -t
-------
HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.7)
Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.0
Copyright (c) 2001-8 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP
This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Side question: Why isn't there an attach file note on this part of Launchpad? (Ubuntu has it, so is it something relating to how much the project pays for membership, or something like that?)

After experiencing the same problem (%Page Comment in header!) with an HP Laserjet (connected via USB to my box, but shared with my team, so I was in a hurry to solve this), I followed the advice from
https:/
and managed to get things working again. Steps involved replacing the pstopdf binary (with the last version posted on the previous link) and, for good measure, changing the printer driver, restarting CUPS, and restarting the printer. I did not test all combinations, so some of these last steps may not be necessary.

Actually, my problem has something to do with the color cartridge, and stops whenever I have it taken out. I'm gonna try getting another one (this cartridge was low on ink anyway) and see what happens.

Please try this with the pstopdf fix from Till:

This is in the intrepid proposed, so in theory if you add the proposed repos and do and update it should be installed.
Let me know if you still have a problem.
