HPLIP

HPLIP with J6410 and Wireless Networking keeps status "Printing"

I just purchased an HP Officejet J6410 and I am trying to install it with three different Ubuntu distributions:

Ubuntu 7.04 works with USB cable, but does not work with networking.
Ubuntu 8.10 / 8.04 does not work with Networking

The problem with networking is only printing (Scanning works fine). Printing however results in a printing task with status "printing" which does not disappear.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Everything looks okay.

Can you run

sudo tail -f /var/log/syslog

then try and print and post any output to the syslog?

Which TCP port does the driver use for printing? (Not the same as scanning?)

Are you using the same system for each of your tests?

I tested the OfficeJet J6400 on Ubuntu 8.10 over Ethernet and it's working correctly.

Please run

hp-makeuri 192.168.2.4

and post the output.

Aaron, does it also work for you wireless?
It is weird as I have this issue on 3 separate computers.
I first thought it was something with the firewall, but printing from windows works fine.

HPLIP doesn't see any difference between wireless and straight Ethernet. The ports are the same so as long as the device has an IP there shouldn't be a problem. Do you have a windows box you can test on to verify it's working with windows?

Generally speaking if I can't reproduce the problem, and it's happening on several systems with the same result it could be there is hardware probelm happening. Wifi noise, cable noise, printer hardware problem, etc. Although I'm not saying that's the problem--if possible test on windows to see if that works.

Printing from Windows from the same machine (from the same location) works fine.
Again also scanning works fine in Linux.

From the cups log I see it's executing foomatic-something-something.

Is this a process I can manually test? (Executing the foomatic process manually?)

This is getting weird.
I just installed yet anotner Ubuntu Laptop with hplip, and this time it works.

To summarize, I now have tested in on 4 Ubuntu machines

First:
Does not work with wireless, but works with USB

Second
Does not work with wireless, untested in Windows

Third:
Does not work with wireless, but works wireless in Windows

Fourth:
No problems at all.
