Printing to c7280 extremely slow - minutes per page

Asked by PaulBradley

I have recently installed a clean Fedora 9 installation, I am trying to get my c7280 all-in-one working with it, I initially installed hp-toolbox over and above the hplip which was already in fedora, and it detected and installed the printer OK, but printing is incredibly slow (minutes for a page of text - the printer starts up and loads a sheet of paper, then I can hear the head go back and forth once, then it pauses for 10 or more seconds, the head moves again, another pause and so on).

I've tried downloading the latest hplip and did an automatic install, but nothing is better. I've tried printing using hp-print to bypass cups to no avail, I've tried printing to a file then sending it to the printer using lpr and that's no better.

The printer is connected via the network, I have googled and found instances of the same problem with different printers both connected via the network and connected directly.

Output from hp-check -t is below:

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.9)

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied
tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully
compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package
(.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies
installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of
the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Oddly enough I rebooted both the box and the printer, and it now seems to be working OK. Bizarre, but for now I'll mark this closed and open another ticket if it happens again.

Thanks
