I have a HP deskjet 2560 that won't plug and print. What can I do to get up and running?

Asked by DW

I have a new Dell laptop with umbutu <sp?> loaded on it. I went out and bought a HP deskjet 2560 and plugged in the USB and the system recognized it but nothing will print. I am a newbie to Linux who is tired of the MS world and wants to give Linux a chance. I am a school teacher who just wants to get some work done without the hassle of becoming a programmer. Is there an easy fix. Oh, I don't have the internet at home so the only time I can access the web is at school. I hope someone can help.

What steps do I take to remedy the situation?

DW,

Please run in a terminal (Click Applications, then Accessories, and then Terminal) :

sudo apt-get install python-qt3

and then to configure the printer run:

sudo hp-setup

Hope this helps!

Hi Aaron,

Thanks. Before I had access to my email I spoke to a friend from church an he gave me a solution by using another HP printer set up that was already installed on umbutu. So I am printing! Thanks for your help!
