errors on RHEL 5.1 32bit Hplip install 2.8.9 on HP L7680

Asked by lunch

Good Morning,

I have on my hands an HP L7680 All in one printer. I use RHEL 5.1 32bit. The hplip packages that come with 5.1 does not have this printer listed. So I downloaded Hplip installer 2.8.9. Ran into the following error, and I am not sure why...

$ bash hplip-2.8.9.run
Creating directory hplip-2.8.9
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

INSTALL MISSING OPTIONAL DEPENDENCIES

warning: Missing OPTIONAL dependency for option 'gui': pyqt4 (PyQt 4- Qt interface for Python (for Qt version 4.x))

warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency for option 'fax': python-dbus (python-dbus - Python bindings for dbus)
warning: This installer cannot install 'python-dbus' for your distro/OS and/or version.
warning: Option 'fax' has been turned off.

I plan on doing allot of scanning, printing and Faxing. What needs to be done to get this (faxing) to work? The missing dependencies above are on my system, (dbus-python-0.70-7.el5, qt4-4.2.1-1) which is why I am perplexed.

I tried to upgrade dbus to .80 (requires python 2.5x) but this would break our supported redhat configuration. Also on RHEL5.1 / CentOS5.1 there are alot of dependencies for this version of python (2.4.3)

Has this been tested on a Stock version of RHEL5.1 / RHEL5.2 ?

For fax support HPLIP requires dbus .80+. If you are unable to upgrade then sadly fax wont be able to be enabled.....

Also the HPLIP automatic installer doesn't support RHEL. You'll want to use the manual install instructions here:

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/redhatenterprise.html

Hope this helps..and sorry for the inconvenience.
