cannot print on letter paper with photosmart

I have installed hplip on a openSUSE 11 machine and all tests succeeded,
even duplex printing.
Now when I try to print from a webpage or send a .ps file from konqueror
the printer is in photo mode and complains of 'out of paper' (on the photo tray).
How do I tell it to use the lower letter tray again?
(Tried to shut of printer and start again. Photo menu button has always light on
and cannot be shut off.)
