Same problem, just purchased Acer One and asked for a Linux supported printer in PC World. Advised to choose HP and download the driver on the Internet. Downloaded hplip and connected to printer. Acer One recognised printer etc. etc. and although queue'd up test page the printer refused to function !! PC world technicians couldn't fix it, HP service support couldn't fix it, and Acer cannot fix it...so don't pray because I doubt if God can fix it. Apparently the problem is in Linux Linpus Lite, the operating system, as hplip is not supported yet. When this is eventually sorted out you can use a plug and play set up through USB conection that is after you have successfully downloaded the driver...but not just yet. carls

I'll be posting directions for how to install hplip on linpus in the near future. We are working on it, although it's been rather more of a challenge then I was expecting.

I'll post an update when I have more information.

Sorry for the delay.

Thanks for the info. louise, it's nice to know someone has discovered at least one printer that works with the Acer Aspire One with the Linux Linpus Lite operating system.

I've just had some recent fun trying to get an HP 1350 running with my Acer Aspire One, and think I've found the "magic" fix...

First of all, everything looked ok, and the Aspire recognized the printer when I plugged it in and automatically seemed to get the correct drivers. My problem was when I tried to print, I would just be stuck forever at "processing".

So I did an investigation and found an interestting thread on the osdir.com website concerning printing to the PSC series of HP printers...

The magic was to install libusb-devel package (in addition to libusb)

I went through the following steps...

1. Unplug the usb printer
2. Remove hplip (sudo yum remove hplip)
3. Make sure libusb is installed (sudo yum install libusb)
4. * Install libusb-devel (sudo yum install libusb-devel) * This is the secret sauce!
5. Install hplip to get the latest drivers (sudo yum install hplip)
6. Plug in printer and then use the printer configuration app (under settings) to install the
   the printer

It doesn't look like just a linpus/Aspire One issue, but a more general linux problem. There seems to be something missing in the libusb package that was found in the libusb-devel package.

Hope this helps people out.

Regards,

Robert

For instructions on downloading and installing go here:

We appreciate any feedback and apologize for the delay in this solution.

Thanks for your support of HPLIP--we appreciate it.

Hallo,

Danke!

Stephan,

I used google translate to get most of the what you are saying. What errors are you getting specifically? At what step are you having a problem?

If possible--please post in english.

Thanks!

I like to extend the the question to my old LaserJet 5 with build in ethernet adapter.
After I started the setup with su -c hp-setup I can't find him as a network printer. Not in the automatic detection nor in the manual lookup. That is the point I need help. A ping to the network address is succsessfull --> no connection problem as far as I can see.

To install hp-setup I follwed the instruction from Aaron Albright and nearly everything was OK.
In the instruction just two packages were listed but are needed to install: cupsddk-devel and cupsddk.

@ CraigieDD: you have to install the package: sudo yum install net-snmp. After this your errors should be gone. I had the same problem.

Acer aspire one and D2560 HP printer:

same problem sa as CraigieDD but the with the use of the D2560 printer just locally via usb!
I'm getting an error on the first line of instructions
su -c "rpm -ev --nodeps libsane-hpaio"
it gives the error
error: package libsane-hpaio is not installed
What exactly should i do??

I'm a bit stuck here (not a LINUX expert either..)

Is it possible just to delete the old version on hplip 2.7.. and to replace it with the new version 3.9..?

Please talk me trough the steps because it takes me ours and i dont get any further right now.

Thanks in advance..

RE HP 1020 printer and Acer Aspire One (Linpus)

I've tried following the instructions on the HP download site, and also installed the libsub add-in as suggested by Hammy.

Towards the end of the installation I get the messages as copied below. Could this be because I tried to install and then re-install when it didn't work the first time? How should I clean out all the old files and start again?

Many thanks for any ideas!

Hi. I have just bought two Acer Aspire One Netbooks. They both print from the HP Laser Printer P1009. Neither will print from the HP Laser Printer HP1006. When I plug in the HP 1006 USB there is a message saying that it is ready to print and then asks me to configure. The HP1006 shows in the Printer Manager Window and I can configure it (eg.choose page size, print quality) . The driver is there (The same as the one for the HP1009). When I try to print (either test page or from another document) nothing happens. Nothing can be seen in the printer status window (accessed from the little printer icon at the bottom of the Home page) which tells you what's happening. The Printer M anager says status - idle. This never changes. When I try to print another test page the same thing happens. When I click print it says job 38 - so they're all queuing up some where. I've no means of deleting them. This sounds like the same situation as the one in this thread.

However I can't understand why the HP1009 prints if the source of the problem is with the linux system. Surely if that was the problem they would both be affected? Please, is there anyone who can advise me?I am really frightened of messing with the system. If the fact that one HP printer works indicates that the problem isn't to do with the system it would be silly to try. There's nothing wrong with the printer. It works with my Apple iBook G4.

I just don't know what to do. I bought this for my son who has been very unwell but has begun to write which is helping him a lot. Please help me to help him. I'm really out of my depth.
