HP Linux Imaging and Printing

installation of hplip failed at .configure

when attempting to run .configure, the installation errors with the following error;
checking for cupsDoFileRequest in -lcups... no
configure: error: cannot find libcups support

my configure command:
[root@momus hplip-2.8.7]# ./configure --enable-network-build --disable-pp-build --enable-fax-build --enable-dbus-build --enable-gui-build --enable-scan-build --enable-doc-build --enable-foomatic-ppd-install --disable-foomatic-drv-install --with-hpppddir=/usr/share/cups/model/hplip-ppds --disable-hpijs-only-build --libdir=/usr/lib64 --prefix=/usr

Dell PowerEdger 2950-3, RHEL v5 (64bit)

Do you have cups-devel installed?

Please run "./check.py -t" (from the hplip-2.8.7 directory) instead of
"hp-check". This will run the 2.8.7 version of the tool, rather than the old
1.6.7 version that is installed. The new version has better diagnostics to
see what the problem might be.
