HPLIP Installation problem

Asked by R.R.Sriram

I downloaded the HPLIP automatic installer from the site and tried to install the same.

I was able to come till the step "Running Make" and here the execution ends with the following error. "error: 'make' command failed with status code 2".

I am new to Linux and not sure what the issue is. If someone can help me get through this, would be wonderful. Would probably need a step by step procedure so that i can solve the issue.

Basically i am trying to install the HP Officejet J5508 All-in-One printer-scanner-fax and copier on the Linux system.

Eagerly awaiting for a solution.

IN the log file this is the last statement before the program terminates.

/usr/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libgphoto2.la: no such file or directory
libtool: link '/usr/lib/libgphoto2.la is not a valid libtool archieve
make: *** [scanext.la] Error 1

Error 'make' command failed with status code 2

Suse 11.0.

I got it working though. Checked the logs and found out that a particular file was missing. Installed that particular package and then tried again and it worked.

Thanks once again for all the help.

Hey there...

I think I have the same problem, but I can't find a missing file.
What package was missing?
Maybe it's the same...

Thanks, Katrin
