Laserjet P1505 no line drawing characters

Asked by Jürgen Mell

I am using openSUSE 10.3, HPLIP 2.8.7 and a Laserjet P1505 printer. Printing generally works correctly, but I cannot print any line drawing characters from a simple (UTF-8-coded) text file. Instead of the single and/or double horizontal or vertical line characters I get only spaces. The rest of the data from the text file is printed correctly. Any ideas?

I found a solution: Instead of generating the text file by means of recode (the file comes originally from a DOS application), I use now a2ps with --encoding=IBM-CP437 to print the file. This works for me although I still find it a little strange that a file which can be shown with 'less' on the screen cannot be printed...
