m2727nf will not scan

Asked by Frederick Reeve

I have just installed the latest version of the hplip drivers. This includes the hpaio sane driver as you know. According to your information at http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/laserjet.html which I have been watching closely for some months, the m2727nf now has scanning support. I have deduced this is not the case or at least is not setup right by the installer. As may be seen in the file /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat, scan-type is still set to -1.

Pertinent command outputs:

sane-find-scanner:

found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x4d17 [HP LaserJet M2727nf MFP]) at libusb:001:024

export SANE_DEBUG_DLL=128
scanimage -L:

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation

Or if called using the device url as suggested in your troubleshooting section:

xsane hpaio:/usb/HP_LaserJet_M2727nf_MFP?serial=00CNCY77W03T

Failed to open device 'hpaio:/usb/HP_LaserJet_M2727nf_MFP?serial=00CNCY77W03T':
Error during device I/O.

I am running:
    Ubuntu 8.04.01 (32 bit)
hplip 2.8.7 ( tried self compiled and automated installer )

We use these printers in our school system and made the purchasing decision on them after talking with an hp representative that assured us that all function of the unit would work with Linux. I know you don't control corprate but better information updating would be helpful. At the very least the representative had incorrect information at the most they Lied. We purchased in 02/20/08.

As we really need this driver if you need more information to fix this bug, Please ask. I also work as a c programmer. If I can be of assistance writing code please ask.

Thanks. We will be waiting to hear from you.

Frederick,

Scan support is not currently available.

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/models/laserjet/hp_laserjet_m2727nf_mfp.html

The problem is not a technical problem. We are working on provide support in the "near" future however..

Sorry for the inconvenience and for your experience with the sales representative.
