Color Management HP b8850

Asked by David Vincent-Jones

HP Photoprint Pro b8850 on Ubuntu 7.10

Trying to establish color management through the Device Manager:

1. Ink levels are not displayed for the Black or Light Gray

2. Color Calibration is not functioning at all. (The icon is displayed but not working)

I am not able to find any way to indicate to the printer what type of medium is being printed.

Where does HPLIP install the .icc profiles on my system?

HP lists this printer as being able to recognize a wide range of icc color spaces but I have not been able to find out just how to do this. HP also publishes the icc profiles (for this printer) for a wide range of paper, canvas etc. This was the basis for my purchase.

The printer is installed along with a Deskjet 960Cxi but to ensure minimal problems I now am using direct usb for the b8850 rather than through a usb hub.

If this printer is not capable of color management then I need to know so that the product can be promptly returned.

In an effort to solve the problem I have now installed the latest software version going from 2.8.6 to 2.8.7.
The 'Color Management' icon is now not grayed-out any longer but still is not functioning.
The Supplies Tab still does not show information for the two black and gray cartridges.
