Can I use the HP LaserJet P1505n as a network printer with Suse 11.0?

Asked by mleziva

Hi,
I am going to buy a HP LaserJet P1505n and to use it as a network printer with 2 PC's. One of them is running on the Suse Linux 11.0 . There is a word "NOT" in the column "NETWORK" in a table "Summary of features available in various Linux distributions" on the page http://hplip.sourceforge.net/models/laserjet/hp_laserjet_p1505n.html . Please is it possible to connect this printer via TCP/IP to the PC with Suse 11.0 ?
Thanks
Jiri

Jiri,

My apologize we missed this setting for this printer. It will be fixed in the next release. That is--network support will be enabled. In the meanwhile you can download hplip 2.8.7, after the install is completed edit the file: /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat

Find the section [hp_laserjet_p1505]

Change the setting io-support=2 to io-support=6

Save the file, exit, delete any printer queues and run hp-setup to configure the printer. And network support should be enabled.

Thanks for your support of HPLIP.

Aaron

Hi Aaron,
thank you for your answer. I downloaded and instaled hplip 2.8.7 . But I am not sure about the section where to change the setting. There are two sections concerning HP LaserJet p1505n in the file models.dat: [hp_laserjet_p1505] and [hp_laserjet_p1505n]. The setting io-support=2 is the same in both sections. Should I really change the section [hp_laserjet_p1505] instead of [hp_laserjet_p1505n]? The section p1505n seems to be better.
Thanks, regards
Jiri
