how to install HPLIP on Apple OS-X?

Asked by Chris S

Can you install HPLIP on OS X? If so, how? If not, what's the alternative driver to get an HP printer to work on an Apple network? Gutenprint does not have drivers for many recent HP printers?

HPLIP does not support OS X.

For the OS X driver you can look on http://www.hp.com and search for your printer.

Sorry we couldn't help more.

I was able to get HPIJS to work. Installation instructions here:
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs#Printers

The HP supplied drivers do not work on a network with a Mac.

I've managed to compile hplip on OSX,
and my printer/scanner now works perfectly.

The procedure to get HPLIP to compile and how to get my patches to the source code are all available at

Best,
