how t ouse Photosmart C7280 with print command options

Asked by Charles

Hi all,

A rather stupid question: if I print a photograph to 10x15 cm photo paper from one of the card media, I get a perfect borderless photograph. The jpeg fits to the paper and is oriented automatically. But how can I get such photograph, under Linux, by a command. Something like "lpr options -P Photosmart_C7280 file.jpg" I suppose, but what are the available options for a photosmart C7280? Where can I find them? At least I need to define the papertray, but also the scaling (automatic?) or orientation.

thanks,

Charles

Charles,

You can configure all of the printer options by running hp-toolbox, and click on print settings.

Hope this helps.

Hi Aaron

thanks, but it is not entirely what I would like to see. Printing from memory card gives a borderless 10x15 photograph, without much ado. It is also possible to have the date on the photograph, if the exif(?) date is present in the jpeg file.

Using hp-toolbox and the printing settings gives the same photograph, but with a border. Moreover, because apparently the image is not exact 2:3, the left border is noticeable bigger (options "fit to page", "media size: photo or 4x6 ..." and "media source: photo tray", the rest is default). Comparing the 2 photographs, the borderless photograph is scaling up and is cutting off a small part of top and bottom in order to fill the paper.
And I do not find an option for the date.
This is on hplip 2.8.6b and suse 10.3

But in fact I would like to be able to send off an "lpr" command in a script, without the necessity to open hp-toolbox but in stead to use the "-o" options in lpr(1). But then the available options should be known and these I cannot find. In the same script I would then also be able to return the printer to default state.

Cheers,

Charles

Hi Aaron,

yes, I thought already it was a stupid question:-(, but it did not cross my mind that options were standardised in CUPS. Thanks a lot.

I played with a few options (border=none and so), but I guess it is impossible to obtain a true borderless photograph (I keep a border left and right), or the exif date printed via options.

Regards,

Charles
