Hp printer recognized as c8100 but not in list

Asked by Happymcc

I have a Photosmart c8180 , The Hplip sees a c8100 but during installation you have a
category Photosmart but the highest the list goes of models is to c7100 . And yet at the
top of the page it says C8100 . What should I pick ?

PS how close are you to getting the negative scanning to work ?

Thank you

Please run hp-check -t and post the output.

The c8100 has been supported by HPLIP since 2.7.9, this makes me thing that either you are using an old version of HPLIP or something is incorrect with the install.

The printer works I just wondered why there was not the correct
model in the menu . I have a c8180 and the highest Photosmart
it c7100 in the menu . I have two screen shots that could show
what I am talking about but I guess you can not post them here .
I am completely new to Linux and had to read on how to run the
command , I was leaving out the space after the word check :)

Does anyone know if there is progress in getting the negative
scanner to work ?

I have more info
I have an extra HD and installed Ubuntu
Software went in fine and says that a C8100 is installed
But as I was installing a balloon pop up said C8100 install as C7100 .
Now in Open Suse during installation the printer install program came
up and I followed it . In Ubuntu it asked me to open the printer
install but I did not and x'd out of the balloon .
Is that any help?

OK problem solved
I installed version 2.8.4 through the Suse Package manager
I uninstalled it and installed 2.8.7 as per your instructions
It was a lot more trouble because I had to go find a few dependent
programs myself that the program needed but would not automatically
install , But the installer told me what to get which I could not find
exactly so I installed a bunch of stuff and started the installation
over and it when through and it labeled HP C8100 . Also the
Suse printer program did not try to start this time . Being that I had
version 2.8.4 I thought well OK but you must install not using the
Suse CD or DVD .

Thanks for the help
