PhotoSmart C4385 - does network wifi work?

Asked by ross

I am deciding what printer to buy for my Ubuntu Hardy laptop. I would like the printer to be wifi enabled, and have a windows partition so I can set up the wireless on the printer (I believe this is necessary, but once the wireless is set up correctly on the printer, HPLIP can connect to it as a standard networked printer).

Looking on the supported printers I see a number of wireless printers are supported, and have a "Yes" in the Network column of the features supported. For instance, look up the PhotoSmart C7280. However, the C4385 has a "No" in the Network support column.

Is this true - is the WiFi feature of the C4385 truly not supported? If so, do you know how it differs so greatly from the other WiFi HP printers?

Thanks,
Ross

if the printer is getting an IP address then HPLIP should work with it. I'll need to look into the support table tomorrow, my assumption is that we didn't think this printer had network capabilities.

So regardless, as long as the printer is able to acquire an IP address it -should- work. HPLIP only supports Jetdirect devices, which if this printer comes with wifi built in -should- work okay. However third party network sharing devices of other companies can't be guaranteed to work.

Sorry for the confusion--hopefully this clears it up a little.

So the WiFi for this printer will work, provided I set it up with a Windows system? For both printing and scanning?
