request support for scanjet pro 2500 f1

I just picked up a new HP Scanjet Pro 2500 f1. I've had such good luck with HP products being supported in LInux that I didn't bother to check to see if it was supported before I bought it. It's my fault, I know. I still have a dual boot system and can use the scanner in Windows, but I'd really prefer to stay in Linux which is where I do almost all of my work.

I'm running Debian Jessie 8.6 (deb 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.36-1+deb8u2 (2016-10-19) x866_64 GNU/Linux)

My question is are there plans to include support for this scanner soon in HPLIP? Is there anything I can do that would help? I'm not a programmer but I would like to help if I can.
