HP 8610 firmware for remanufactured cartridge

Recently bought non HP cartridges which will not work in HP Officejet Pro 8610.

Read about the trouble that HP caused by the automatic firmware change. Understand that a firmware update was issued by HP to allow non-HP cartridges to be used, but the fixes that I can find are for Windows and Mac.

Can anyone advise (a newbe) if there is a linux patch to apply to the my printer so that the off-brand cartridges will work.
