Do you mean direct printing from photocards or something else?

okay. i think i misunderstood something. with photocard i meant the spezial paper where you print on to achieve photo quality. since i wasn't able to do so i looked up the hp page and was directed to launchpad. there i found a table which said that photocard is not supported. so i believe it didn't mean what i was thinking it meant.
well, for my problem: i am using debian testing/lenny. before i used debian stable/etch. since i had problems with etch getting photo quality printouts on photo paper i hoped to solve this problem with a newer hplip. as it looks the printer always prints with the same quality no matter what paper i insert and on photo paper it just looks horribly. then, when trying to change the quality output by hand, say 1200dpi photopaper, all indicator lights on the priner start to flash nervously when i start the printer job. i've used debian packages only. i once had a hp deskjet, where i didn't have such problems and the printout were just awesome. what am i doing wrong? do i miss something?

thank you for the quick reply and sorry for the inconvenience.
regards

Did you go to hp-toolbox and adjust the print settings on the Print Settings tab?

i did try the hp-toolbox
and after having managed to get it working, one time later, without having changed anything, it refused to work, telling me that it wasn't able to find a printer. after becoming very, very frustrated i thought to give it a last try and downloaded the .ppd file from linuxprinting.org. after that i tried to print out another photo and what happend? it did work. so it seems the problem is solved. i didn't use the hplip-toolbox but the webbrowser backend from CUPS. then after trying to get the hplip-toolbox recognizing my printer agian, without success, i simply deinstalled the hplip-gui package. i don't think i need it anyway since everything now works. obviosly not as expected but it works and i do have printouts that satisfy my needs. i do have to work around things, but since printing still remains a frustrating task under linux, i am used to that. :-) i might consider suggesting hp to work together with the gutenprint project to make printing a one-look experience!
anyway, i want to thank hp and all of you for supporting linux though and beeing of help to us users.
thanks for not giving up with me! :-)

respectfully
yours curt manucredo
