Asked by Gottfried

Dear Sir or Madam,

My Linux Distribution is 16.04.

My printers are:
1. HP LaserJet P1102 (the problem occurs only with this priner
2. HP Officejet - 6300

I have a PC and a network connected laptop.

The output of hp-check are as follows:
1. PC
gottfried@gottfried-Inspiron-530s:~$ hp-check -t
Saving output in log file: /home/gottfried/hp-check.log

HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies

This is my problem:

For some time I had problems printing with the LaserJet P1102. After upgrading to 16.04 (I did hope the problem would be solved) I experienced the same problems:
Either the printing job has been stopped (in German: "angehalten") or the printer just did not print (in German: "ausstehend").
So, I looked into the printer settings and found that the PC automatically installed a second printer named P1102-2 but the original printer (P1102) was still set as standard. The second printer (P1102-2) did print.

Now I installed the latest version of the driver hplip 3.16.8 hoping that the problem has been solved. However, the problem still exist. As can be seen from the hp-check - PC there is the second printer installed and recognized by the system, while the original printer (P1102) is not detected.

From the laptop the second printer (P1102-2) is not accessible.

What is wrong and can you help me to solve the problem?

Best regards,

Gottfried
